Prof. Gil got his degree in Chemistry at the University of São Paulo in 1980. Under the supervision of prof. Nicola Petragnani, prof. Gil concluded his Ph.D. in 1984 on organic synthesis at the University of São Paulo USP). Next, prof. Gil was a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Alberta between 1984 and 1986. In 1987, he started his research and teaching activities at USP in São Paulo city. There, his experience and pioneering activities in the field of organic synthesis and nuclear magnetic resonance were crucial for the Laboratory of Organic Synthesis (LOS), which he helped to create. He was also responsible for the NMR facility center of the Department of Chemistry at FFCLRP-USP. Moreover, prof. Gil was the head of the department for many years, giving an important contribution to the department development   

          Over more than three decades as member of the Laboratory of Organic Synthesis (LOS) and head of the NMR Facility Center, prof. Gil published about 80 scientific papers in the fields of organic synthesis, nuclear magnetic resonance, computational chemistry, and chemical education. He supervised ten MSc candidates and eight Ph.D. students, who currently are researchers in other universities. 
           After Prof. Gil got retired in 2021, he spent his time at home drinking wine and listening to classic music. Sadly, Prof. Gil passed away in 2023. Your colleagues and all the LOS students' generations are (and will be) very grateful for your dedication and teachings.
