Prof. Paulo Marcos Donate got his degree in Chemistry at the University of São Paulo in 1978. Under the supervision of prof. Mauricio Gomes Constantino, prof. Constantino concluded his Ph.D. in 1984 on organic synthesis at the University of São Paulo USP). In 1986, he started a post-doctoral fellowship at entre de Recherches de Carrières-Rhône Poulenc, CRC, França. In 1987, prof. Donate got a post-doctoral fellowship position at Unité Mixte Cnrs Rhône Poulenc, CNRS/RP, França. After three years working at Roché (1990-1993), he started his research and teaching activities at the Department of Chemistry at FFCLRP, USP in the Ribeirão Preto city. There, his experience in the field of organic synthesis has been crucial for the Laboratory of Organic Synthesis (LOS), which he helped to create.
Over almost three decades as a member (and currently the head) of the Laboratory of Organic Synthesis (LOS), prof. Donate published about 70 scientific papers in the fields of organic synthesis, nuclear magnetic resonance, and biological activities of synthetic and semi-synthetic organic compounds. Part of his research was dedicated to the development of novel methodologies for the synthesis of lactones, including one-pot multicomponent reactions (MCR). He also shared his large experience in these fields by writing three textbooks.
Prof. Donate spends his time outside the lab playing soccer and tennis and enjoying his time with other chemists appreciating a good beer. He has a good sense of humor and students love to meet him at the department halls or even in the LOS to have some minutes of chat. Prof. Donate brings light and inspiration to LOS students and colleagues in love with Organic Chemistry.
